Indonesian metal band Voice Of Baceprot will be heading to Germany next year to perform at Wacken Open Air Festival 2022. The news was announced via Wacken Open Air’s Instagram page last week and the all-female group from Java will be sharing the stage with the likes of Limp Bizkit, Slipknot, As I Lay Dying and Australia's own Rose Tattoo.
The heavy metal festival has been taking place in the village of Wacken in Schleswig-Holstein every year since 1990, but due to the pandemic hasn't gone ahead since 2019.
In a press statement, vocalist and guitarist Marsya said, “Wacken Open Air is on our wish list, for sure. I think I’ve mentioned its name so many times to the point where I almost gave up on ever making it there. But when I saw our name on their line-up, the need to appreciate myself more came to mind straight away because after having worked so hard, one by one my dreams are coming true!”
Drummer Sitti added: “When I read about the news, I was shocked. I didn’t know what to say. I’m just grateful that every hope and dream that I’ve ever written and said can be realised. Therefore, I will never be afraid to dream!”
The hijab-wearing all-female trio have faced more challenges than most bands telling Metal Hammer in March that they've unfortunately received numerous death threats.
Marsya shared in the interview that, "For the most part, people are saying that stuff because we’re women, but we’re not scared to say what’s on our mind. A lot of people don’t like that. If we were men maybe we wouldn’t get such a hard time. Music gives us such a great joy that’s why we want to continue to play. So we are focusing on our music and screw the others!”
The band haven't released any music since 2018's School Revolution, but played a few live-streamed concerts for Canadian Music Week and WOW Festival UK earlier in the year.
Voice Of Baceprot have released one single thus far: 2018’s School Revolution, which chronicles the girls’ experiences in having their dreams suppressed by the rigid rules of school and the education system. The song was accompanied by a video clip that has been viewed over 900k times on YouTube.
Waken is currently the only show on the cards for the band for now but here's hoping this announcement means new music from these inspiring youngsters.
