Melbourne five-piece Gravemind recently announced their debut album and released its first crushing single 'Volgin', and they've quickly followed it up with another piece of the record with 'Phantom Pain', which you can check out below.
Gravemind are doing a good job of breaking the deathhore mold by introducing a ton of dynamics into their songwriting while tackling some pretty confronting issues - in the case of 'Phantom Pain', the lyrical themes centre around domestic violence and absent parents.
A spoken word section towards the end of the track has vocalist Dylan Gillies-Parsons saying:
“When I think about the child that I might have, how I could make real all the things that I am, not for one second could I see myself leaving. This is the only responsibility I could ever have. If I gave breath to another person, I couldn’t bear the thought of not guiding their hand through this life. For I know the feeling of absence, it weighs on my soul, it constricts me of air.”
