Gojira Hit No. 3 on the ARIA Charts

    One week in, Gojira’s new album, Fortitude, has hit number 3 on the ARIA Charts.  It seems the French metal outfit are going from strength to strength with each release, as to date, this is the highest-charting album they have had here in Australia.

    However, the reasons for Gojira to celebrate don’t stop there.  They also have the No. 1 selling rock album this week in the US according to Billboard‘s Top Album Sales Chart and they've also hit the top spot in the UK Rock & Metal albums charts. The band gushed about the achievement on their Facebook page a few hours ago saying:

    “Wow... Fortitude has debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Albums Sales Charts... meaning it sold more physical copies than any other album last week in the US. Also No. 1 Top Rock Album and No. 1 Hard Rock Album! We want to express our gratitude to all of you worldwide for buying our album and putting Gojira up there in the charts in every country. This is an incredible achievement!  A little celebration is in order…”

    When we caught up with drummer Mario Duplantier the other week, he expressed he was thankful their previous 2016 studio album, Magma, landed them global recognition and was particularly stoked by the love felt in their home country, France.  

    “We got nominated for the Grammys, we got the attention of the media in France for the first time - because France is not a rock country - we were invited on the T.V. shows...we felt great, you know, it’s always so good to feel the love from the community, the fans.”

    Magma peaked here at 11 on the ARIA Charts with its highest placement on the Swiss Hitparade at number 4.

    According to ARIA, the purpose of their charts is to accurately report music consumption in Australia at any given time. Once upon a time, the ARIA Charts were predominantly tracking physical product sales but now the charts encompass physical, digital and streaming activity.

    The ARIA Charts are calculated once a week on Friday and are based on retail recorded music sales and streaming activity within Australia for the week from the preceding Friday to the Thursday prior to calculation.
