It's Friday, Friday, got to get your fresh metal fix on Friday.  That's right Maniacs it is finally Friday which means it is time to kick off the weekend with some Friday Fire. 

With so many new metal releases dropping every week, it can be hard to know what to listen to, so we've taken it upon ourselves to do the heavy lifting, sorting the 'hell yeah' from the 'hell meh' you don't have to.  So without fear or favour, here are is our Friday Fire: Five New Tracks We're Feeling This Friday.

Gojira - Sphinx 

French metal titans Gojira dropped this video for Sphinx today. An absolute standout track from their acclaimed new album Fortitude,  Sphinx becomes positively hypnotic in the talented hands of animator and director Zev Deans who places an animated version of the band in front of the infamous Egyptian colossus for a powerhouse performance.  This rules. 

Thornhill- Casanova 

Thornhill make a colossal return with their edgy and riff-laden single Casanova today. Marking the band's first taste of new music since their acclaimed 2019 debut album The Dark Pool, the release finds the group stepping into an inspired new era complete with an elevated sound and image. We don't know where they are going next, but we're definitely going to go along for the ride. More please.

The Atomic Beau Project- Fall To The Beast 

Aussie genre crossers The Atomic Beau Project deliver a sonically devastating and emotionally complex heavy hitter with Fall To The Beast. The track portrays lead singer Beau’s battle with depersonalisation/derealisation disorder, a chronic condition where your own life and body feel like a dream, and devoid of all colour. In line with the band’s contrasting sound of dark/heavy instrumentals against soft, delicate vocals, the track depicts the protagonist's struggle against the beast of depersonalisation and derealisation but finds herself turning the tides on the beast and fighting a noble fight. This is one of the most exciting, innovative and important songs we've heard emerge from the Aussie underground in a while. We have our eyes on you, The Atomic Beau Project!

Underoath - Cycle feat. Ghostemane

Underoath have unleashed Cycle, the latest single from the band’s upcoming album Voyeurist (out January 14th via Fearless Records). A collaboration with Ghostemane, Cycle is a mix of pulsating aggression and infectious hooks that find vocalists Spencer Chamberlain and Aaron Gillespie complemented by Ghostemane’s delivery. This is one of the most interesting and infectious songs that Underoath have penned in over a decade and is the perfect example of the power of a good collaboration to open up new creative pathways. 

sunbleached- Flowers Grow From Ugly Places

Rising Brisbane band sunbleached channel a grab bag of '90s influences on this fuzzy tune. A blend of nostalgic undertones Flowers Grow From Ugly Places is reminiscent of Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and Silverchair, as well as modern influences like Citizen and Basement. It is a winning mix that the band instils its personality upon with unflinching honesty.  If this is the sound of the '90s revival, we're in.
