It's Friday, Friday, got to get your fresh metal fix on Friday. That's right Maniacs it is finally Friday which means it is time to kick off the weekend with some Friday Fire.
With so many new metal releases dropping every week, it can be hard to know what to listen to, so we've taken it upon ourselves to do the heavy lifting, sorting the 'hell yeah' from the 'hell meh' you don't have to. So without fear or favour, here are is our Friday Fire: Five New Tracks We're Feeling This Friday 19th November.
The Last Martyr - Freaking Out
The Last Martyr continues their sonic evolution on this absolute tune. Produced, mixed and mastered by the unstoppable Chris Lalic (Windwaker, To Octavia, Days Like These), Freaking Out is a thrashing addition to the band's collection that tells a tale of bravery in taking the risk to fall in love despite feeling content with being on your own. The Last Martyr recently announced they'll be unleashing their debut EP, Purgatory on December 10th.
Silverstein - It's Over
Canadian post-hardcore icons, Silverstein dropped this visceral new single yesterday and it's been stuck in our heads ever since we pressed play. The legendary post-hardcore outfit deftly balance their core sound—an intensely dynamic mix of melody and aggression, rooted in the energy of punk and the unabashed earnestness of emo—with their natural growth as songwriters and evolving inspirations and the results speak for themselves.
Puppy- The Kiss
In our opinion UK based grunge three-piece Puppy are one of the finest bands of the grunge new wave and this commanding new single is another gloriously fuzzy example of why we hold such a high opinion of them. Shoezgaze riffs, understated vocals, sneakily poppy melodies and a perfectly batshit video accompaniment add up to another dead set winner from this underrated crew.
The Butterfly Effect- So Tired
Aussie alt-metal legends The Butterfly Effect are back to stake their claim as one of the nations most unfuckwithable metal talents. Their first new single since Unbroken dropped in 2019, So Tired incorporates all of the elements we've come to love from The Butterfly Effect with heartfelt melodic crooning sitting atop a bed of dense, experimental instrumentation and heavy riffs. As always with The Butterfly Effect, it is the songcraft that is the most impressive, with every note here playing a role in the totality of the songs enormous scope. Welcome back, kings.
FANGZ- Won't Be Me
Sydney-based punks FANGZ are in absolutely smashing form on Won’t Be Me. Produced by Stevie Knight (Yours Truly, Stand Atlantic, The Dead Love), and mixed by James Paul Wisner (Paramore, Underoath, this is an absolute belter. Opening with palm-muted guitars and the boundless vocals of frontman Joshua Cottreau, Won’t Be Me heaves into a thunderous concoction of emphatic drums and spirited bass, while guitars soar above the mix. Four-on-the-floor rhythms permeate the verses before launching into a fiery half-time chorus, bristling with contagious melodies and dynamic hooks. Put simply, it's a fucking hectic bop, mate.
