Opeth exist in a genre of one. The forward-thinking Swedish titans, seamlessly and fluidly combine metal, classic rock, prog, folk and free form jazz to varying degrees, throughout all ten of their studio albums. The band hold an almost holy reverence among fans, each release adding a new dimension into the Opeth spectrum and extending their reputation as masters of dark and shade by spinning haunting tales and possessing all within their reach.
We recently asked guitarist Fredrick kesson a few questions including why he chose METAL! Read on to see what he had to say
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE METAL?
I was into rock before Metal. Mom and Dad listened to Beatles and Stones, Elvis, Abba and some Swedish folk music. When I heard metal/hard rock I thought it was a development and it sounded dangerous and the image was inspiring as well.
WHATS THE BEST KIND OF METAL?
Mostly I listen to classic metal like Maiden, Priest, Sabbath. But some more extreme stuff too like Death, Darkthrone, Morbid Angel, etc.
WHY WOULD YOU ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO CHOOSE METAL?
Metal doesnt follow trends and there is a wide sonic spectrum of all the bands out there.
