Brisbane rock outfit Days Like These have unveiled the third and final single, Honey, from their forthcoming EP, Wide Awake, and they're a breath of fresh air within the heavy scene.
Honey slows things down and plays on mellow synth lines, a sombre mood and stripped-down segments to highlight the emotion behind the track. The song explores the feelings associated with losing an invested relationship and the coping mechanisms - or lack of - that come with the break. The lyric video follows vocalist Callen Batson through a dark street lit by neon and showcases the frontman in several different lights, figuratively and literally.
"Honey was one of the last songs we wrote for the EP," explains Batson. "We wrote it in the studio with Chris (Lalic, the producer) and it turned out to be one of the standout tracks. The band has always wanted to experiment with different sounds but we never quite clicked on how to do it successfully. Chris played a huge role in developing our songwriting skills and helped see our vision through."
The Wide Awake EP was produced by Chris Lalic (Windwaker) and was a release Days Like These spent 2020 working tirelessly towards. Previous singles Gravity and High & Glow achieved national and international attention from press and music fans and when they released tickets to their headlining EP launch show at Brisbane's The Brightside it sold out quickly.
