The new Slipknot record is by far, one of the most anticipated records of the year (or next year if we have to wait that long!) and Corey Taylor has just revealed to Full Metal Jackie that the new album is 98% done! Check out what else he has to say about the new album!
Its Full Metal Jackie and we have Corey Taylor with us on the show tonight. Slipknot are obviously working on a new album. Corey, whats been most fulfilling about working on new Slipknot music that you never experienced before?
This one, it just feels, theres something weird about this one. Obviously this is the first album were making withoutPaul [Gray]. After everything we went through, theres a catharsis that comes with this, being able to throw all the emotion and aggression out that weve been holding onto. At the same time, getting to be creative again. Feeling that juice coming back into us. Its been a real positive experience just from an artistic standpoint, a lyrical standpoint. Were making an album thats not just a reflection. Lets just get new music out there. Theres something very vital with what were trying to do. Theres something very visceral with the emotion were playing with and trying to tell the story of a band thats gone through hell, and yet were back. Its been really fulfilling.
Slipknot fans are fiercely devoted to the band. How has your responsibility as their voice changed over time? Especially now, with new music.
Theres an intensity that comes with this band. Theres a special kind of insanity that comes with this band, its not just a crazy for crazy sake. This is about almost that primal scream expression that comes with being able to channel it, not just explode, but channel it. The responsibility comes when youre trying to not only broaden the horizons of new fans but live up to the expectations of the older fans, and yourself. Its been about using this band as a way to channel the aggression that I always feel. Its not the same kind of aggression I had when we made our first album, but its about approaching everything with that same intensity and drive that same commitment to making everything absolutely perfect. Thats what we expect from ourselves and thats what the fans expect from us.
Corey, tell us about the progress and where things are at with the new Slipknot album.
The album is done. Oh yes. Id say 98 percent done. Im in the process of heading to the studio to give a listen, see if theres anything we need to touch up. But yeah, it is very close. The next step is the mix, and were going to try to get it out very soon. There will be big announcements soon. Big things to hear, soon. Thats really all I can say about it. I know were anything, if not diligent to our plan. The plan is to just slowly but surely get people to lose their minds for the next couple of months with just little stuff here and there leaked.
