triple j's Hottest 100 has been run and won (by Doja Cat) for another year, and as predicted it was another somewhat disappointing countdown for fans of heavy music. Only three heavy acts, Bring Me The Horizon, Sleep Token and Polaris featured in the official countdown.
Bring Me The Horizon made the cut twice this year with DArkSide (#57) and LosT (#58) becoming their thirteenth and fourteenth entries in the countdown since breaking through with Shadow Moses and Sleepwalking in 2013.

Sleep Token continued to build off a spectacularly successful year that saw them release the most streamed new metal album in the world, Back To Eden by landing their first-ever entry in the countdown The Summoning (#83).
The two British metal monsters and soon to be Australian tourmates were joined in the countdown by Sydney's own Polaris who earned their debut placing in the Hottest 100 with Nightmare (#90). Polaris getting the nod from voters ahead of more established heavy fave The Amity Affliction and even returning rock giants Paramore a testament to the special place they've come to hold in the hearts of Australian metalheads.
A few other heavy songs very nearly featured in the countdown with triple j releasing the list of the songs that placed from 101-200 in this years countdown yesterday. Leading the charge amongst these was The Amity Affliction who narrowly missed adding to their twelve previous entries with It's Hell Down Here (#111) and I See Dead People [Ft. Louie Knuxx] (#182) appearing in the top 200.

Polaris also just missed on a double entry with Inhumane landing at #160, while Bring Me The Horizon's AmEN! [Ft. Lil Uzi Vert/Daryl Palumbo] also hit big with voters placing at #161. Trophy Eyes also had a near miss with Blue Eyed Boy (#125).
While the fact that ANY heavy acts were represented at all is a definite win for the genrespace, it is a far cry from the days when heavy acts dominated the countdown.
