Here are four of our favourite guitar duos that you might not usually seet in one of these lists, because let’s face it, who wants to read the same article five times?
Adam Dutkiewicz & Joel Stroetzel - Killswitch Engage
Labelled as one of the founders of metalcore, Killswitch Engage has some pretty technical guitar work. Dutkiewicz switched from drumming to lead guitar for the band in 2002, and together with Stroetzel create crushing riffs and duel-harmonies phrased with pinch harmonic squeals. Dutkiewicz, a master of all things music, also produced Parkway Drive’s ‘Killing With A Smile’ and ‘Horizons’ albums.
Jeff Ling & Luke Kilpatrick - Parkway Drive
By their own admission, Ling is far too technical and Kilpatrick is a shit guitarist, but the opposite ends of the spectrum must have evened them out to produce these killer sounds. These two surfies from Byron Bay will lure you in with their fast pace, and make your ears pregnant with their breakdowns.
Mike Schleibaum & Kris Norris - Darkest Hour
This duo brilliantly mixes light melodic ambience with fiery riffs create songs that are more of an experience than a sound. Solos that are quicker than lighting and instrumental sections that will turn you into a paraplegic. The 2005 album ‘Undoing Ruin’ is nothing short of masterful.
Mark Morton & Willie Adler - Lamb Of God
With Morton’s blues inspiration and Adler’s love of all things thrash, together they export some of the tastiest riffs in metal... probably ever. Their ability to play in absolute unison creates a massive synchronised sound that you probably won’t find anywhere else. These masters of Drop D prove that tuning low doesn’t equal heavy. Heavy equals heavy, ya dig?
