Marvel dropped the trailer for the latest in its run of Thor films, Thor: Love and Thunder today and the internet predictably lost its mind, with the trailer notching up just shy of 20 million views in a number of hours. Every second of those millions of views was soundtracked by Sweet Child O' Mine, and Guns N Roses iconic 1987 hit does a terrific job at what it is being asked to do, joining Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song in the hallowed halls of Thor's musical infamy.
We'd be lying if we didn't think it was just a wee bit of a safe choice from Marvel though. I mean, Thor is the Asgardian God of Thunder, an actual Viking god for spaghetti monster's sake. Surely he'd prefer to listen to the music of his people as he goes about saving the universe with maximum collateral damage? Surely he'd prefer to blast some damn Viking metal! So with this in mind, we thew on our Viking helmets, smashed a few pints of mead and dreamt up this playlist of five songs we'd like to hear soundtrack Thor: Love and Thunder!
Amon Amarth - Twilight Of The Thunder God
Bathory - One Rode To Asa Bay
Enslaved - Havenless
Tyr - Regin Smidur
Unleashed - Before The Creation Of Time
Bonus sixth entry that isn't technically Viking metal but would absolutely work
Iron Maiden - Invaders
Speaking of Iron Maiden's Invaders to mark the 40th anniversary of the album it appears on, The Number Of The Beast Iron Maiden launched a commemorative cassette that is available to order right now from Maniacs!
This seminal recording and the first to feature Bruce Dickinson as a vocalist – catapulted Iron Maiden to international stardom and set them on course for the spectacular trajectory of success that the band continues to enjoy and develop to this day, selling over 20 million records to date and counting.
