Over two decades as a band and seven albums, Atreyu have found a place in our hearts by wearing theirs on their sleeve. Whether you call them emo, metalcore, post-hardcore or whatever else, one thing is for certain - they've written some absolute bangers over the years!
With the band's Australian headline tour kicking off on February 26, we thought it'd be a great time to take a look back at five of the best Atreyu tracks:
My Fork In The Road (Your Knife In My Back)
While Atreyu's 2006 album A Death-Grip On Yesterday spawned one of the band's biggest hits (featured further down), this non-single also sticks out as a massive album highlight - if you want to find a snapshot of mid-2000's metalcore, look no further than this track.
'My Fork In The Road' just exudes energy from every pore, with a spicy guitar solo bringing it all to a head towards the end.
Atreyu's guitarist Dan Jacobs has actually listed this as one of his own favourite songs the band have ever written, and we can totally see why.
Our fingers are crossed they bust this one out on the upcoming tour!
Lip Gloss and Black
The soundtrack to our high school heartbreak from a time when eyeliner, checkered belts and massive side fringes were everywhere.
The piano in the closer makes for an epic finish to their 2002 debut album Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses, and to their live sets as well for that matter; the band still frequently close out their concerts with this catalogue staple.
"Live, Love, Burn, Die."
Ex's & Oh's
You knew it was coming! Atreyu's only single from their third album A Death-Grip On Yesterday turned out to be one of their biggest hits, and it makes sense - mostly clean vocals and some of the most angsty lyrics in the genre result in a classic singalong that has stuck with us after all these years.
This one is still included in their set more often than not, so there's every chance you'll be able to scream it at the top of your lungs come the shows!
Becoming The Bull
Another live mainstay in Atreyu's set, 'Becoming The Bull' grabs you by the horns from the get-go with those pounding drum hits, before dropping into a seriously nasty riff to serve as the driving backbone of the song.
It's the only track from their 2007 record Lead Sails Paper Anchor to make it onto the list, but it is bloody deserving of its spot. Also, how good is that chorus?!
Blood Children / Bleeding Mascara
The opening of Atreyu's second album The Curse is iconic, with 'Blood Children' slowly draws you in with distant vocal swells, before an abrupt "GOOOOOO!" combines with thundering double kicks to demand your attention.
Add to that an extremely huge chorus, and 'Bleeding Mascara' easily becomes one of the band's best tracks.
Honourable Mention: Her Portrait in Black
Her Portrait in Black just missed out on making our top five list, but it should by no means be ignored - the song was featured on the soundtrack to the 2006 film Underworld: Evolution (a great soundtrack, FYI), effectively becoming the gateway for many fans to discover Atreyu for the first time.
You can safely pit this song against any of the best from the band's studio albums, and we're hoping it will get its chance to shine at the end of February!
There are just too many other great Atreyu jams we've left out (we're looking at you, 'Right Side of the Bed'), but we're so keen to feel some of these iconic tunes in the flesh - join us and grab your ticket below:
