Let's be real - is there a pairing more perfect than heavy music and Halloween? It's hard to say, but with spooky holiday upon us once again, it's time to set the mood! Here are 10 tracks we think absolutely deserve a spot in your Halloween playlist (if they aren't already!):
Ice Nine kills - Stabbing In The Dark
Any song from Ice Nine Kills' discography will do, given that their music is basically just one giant homage to all things Halloween and horror movies, but you can't go wrong with ''Stabbing In The Dark' - it's got the creepy, the heavy, the catchy and the dark! The perfect Halloween musical accompaniment.
Avenged Sevenfold - A Little Piece Of Heaven
A sprawling, epic rock opera that also happens to be seriously disturbing! A tongue-in-cheek love story wrapped up in themes of death, necrophilia and revenge will get you slow dancing while your carved pumpkins watch on in admiration.
Motionless In White - Voices
You really can't go past Motionless In White at a time like this, who obviously love getting into the Halloween spirit. Even frontman Chris Motionless has a 31-10 tattoo!
'Voices' is a great tune, but if you want to go heavier, you can always spin their new tune 'Creatures X: To The Grave'!
Rob Zombie - Dragula
If it wasn't on the list, we'd give you permission to hunt us down! Rob Zombie is just about as iconic as it gets, and 'Dragula' is the ultimate pick for Halloween. It's got drive, it's got party, and most definitely enough spook to earn a permanent spot in your annual playlist!
Korn - Dead Bodies Everywhere
It seems like a no-brainer to include Korn here. But it's definitely not easy to pick an individual track! We settled on 'Dead Bodies Everywhere' because of the creepy guitar effects, a toy box, Fieldy's signature bass tone in full effect, and of course, the fact that it's from Follow The Leader!
Slaughter To Prevail - Demolisher
Okay, so it's not Halloween-themed, but it's just so damn heavy that it'll spawn a blood moon directly over your house anyway! The fast-rising deathcore band from Russia have got you covered if your goal is to create the most crushing, brutal atmosphere possible.
King Diamond - Halloween
It's King Diamond, and the song is literally called 'Halloween' - what's not to love? Maybe the wailing classic metal vocals aren't for you, but with a chorus that repeats "Halloween you are my pride/Halloween not just a dream" and some blazing riffs/solos, we reckon it's a killer playlist addition.
Type O Negative - All Hallows Eve
There's never a bad time to spin some Type O Negative, but that dark, rumbling voice of Peter Steele is absolutely perfect for the spooky occasion. If you're the type to spend your Halloween in a somber mood rather than a partying one, lyrics like “Pumpkins grin in their despair" and “Spiderwebbed and glazed in frost" will absolutely do it for you.
Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
This is literally the first original song in Sabbath's catalogue, and is also regarded as the first heavy metal and doom metal track ever released. The rain, the thunder, the creepy bell chimes - it's all here. 50 years later in 2020, it still sends chills down our spine, especially with lyrics about meeting and running from Satan himself.
When you have people like Judas Priest's Rob Halford claiming that it's the most evil song of all time, you know it's an essential Halloween listen!
The Misfits - Halloween
Another track simply called 'Halloween', The Misfits dropped this one back in 1981 and it does such a great job of brashly painting the holiday with lyrics like "Bonfires burning bright / Pumpkin faces in the night / I remember Halloween" and "Dead cats hanging from poles / Little dead are out in droves / I remember Halloween".
And being Misfits, it's obviously a punk rager that will put a little pep into any Halloween party!
What will you be listening to this year? Do you have a regular go-to track you like to spin? Let us know!
